Lewis Capaldi mocks Noel Gallagher during Glastonbury set

Noel Gallagher may not be booked to play at Glastonbury this year – but he still managed to make an appearance, thanks to some gentle mocking from singer Lewis Capaldi.
Performing to a huge crowd on the Other Stage, the popular singer-songwriter walked out with the Oasis star’s face on his T-shirt, and a video of the older Gallagher brother playing on screen behind him.
The dig comes after Noel rubbished the Scottish star, famous for his tear-jerker ballads, in an interview, and jokingly tweeted to tell him to “find some joy” in his music, saying it upset his young son.
It was similar to Jay Z’s headline entrance in 2008, when the rapper strolled on to the Pyramid Stage to Oasis hit Wonderwall, following comments made by Noel to say he was not happy about having hip hop at Glastonbury.
Before the festival, Capaldi told his 2.7 million Instagram followers that being “slagged off” by Noel meant he had “peaked”.
But it seems it’s not being taken too seriously. Noel is yet to respond, but his daughter Anais posted on Twitter to say: “I want to be @LewisCapaldi when I grow up.”
Capaldi’s Glastonbury entrance, which also included a tongue-in-cheek reference to his success this year with the Naughty by Nature track, Here Comes The Money, went down a storm with the tens of thousands of fans who turned out to see him.
He has had huge success in 2019, with his debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, the fastest-selling of the year so far and the longest-running chart-topper.
He is loved by fans for his soulful, emotional tracks – there were definitely a few tears in the Glastonbury crowd – but also for his humour on social media – and readiness to take the mickey out of himself and his newfound fame.
Ahead of his Saturday slot at the festival, he delighted fans with an unannounced warm-up gig on the intimate BBC Introducing Stage – and a cameo for a duet during Bastille’s set.
He has also been seen wandering around the Worthy Farm site in Somerset carrying a sign simply saying: “Hold me.”
Elsewhere, fans enjoyed the sunshine on the hottest day of the year so far, with many even braving flip-flops – a rare site at the often muddy event – as acts including The Proclaimers, Johnny Marr, Anne-Marie and Janet Jackson performed on the main stages.
It all followed a rousing headline set by Stormzy on Friday night, with the grime star making history as the first black British male to headline Glastonbury – and the second youngest person ever to play the slot, after David Bowie.
