Large-scale Jobs and Careers Fair to inspire Cumbria’s jobseekers

Written by on 06/03/2023

As part of National Careers Week (6 to 11 March), job seekers from across Cumbria will have the chance to speak directly to some of the county’s most innovative and inspiring employers at a special event next Thursday 9 March.

Around 60 organisations will be taking part in the large-scale Jobs and Careers Fair taking place on Thursday 9th March at the Town Hall in the centre of Kendal.

It’s being hosted by a partnership of local organisations, including Kendal College, Cumbria Tourism, Inspira, Job Centre Plus, and LOCALiQ.

An important event for Cumbria Tourism who is representing the tourism industry, promoting the many benefits of a career in Cumbria’s hospitality sector during the ongoing recruitment struggles many businesses in the county are facing.

Aimed at all ages and career stages, the event will feature both current job vacancies and opportunities to develop longer-term careers in key industries ranging from tourism and hospitality, to professional services, healthcare and public sector roles.

Alongside recruitment agencies and other support organisations, there will be a number of Universities and Further Education institutions from across the North of England who will also be on hand to offer advice and inspiration.

Rachel Ireland, Careers Lead at Kendal College comments After the success of last year’s event, we are thrilled to once again run a Job and Careers Fair in Kendal. Our aim is to bring together some of Cumbria’s most innovative employers with jobseekers of all ages and careers stages, to encourage them to explore the wide range of opportunities available across the county. We are also excited to be welcoming several further and higher education institutions who will be on hand to offer advice and guidance for anyone who is looking to develop their skills and achieve their full potential.”

Tom Waterhouse, Operations Director at Stagecoach adds “We’re delighted to be taking part in this years Kendal Jobs Fair. This will be an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for exciting job opportunities in the local area, and we believe the event will play an important part in the local jobs market ahead of the upcoming summer season.”

Graham Hadaway of Hargreaves Enterprises comments “Hargreaves Enterprises will be attending this years jobs fair and we’re going to hopefully help make the event even better than last year (but I can’t say too much about what we have planned). What’s important to know is if you are looking to understand what an awesome career in hospitality could look like for you then this is your chance to come and speak with us and get all the facts.

“There really hasn’t been a better time to be a bartender, mixologist, chef, host etc with wages now being higher than working in a supermarket and on par with many traditional professional jobs. As well there are a lot of progression opportunities for those that are ambitious.”

The Jobs and Careers Fair will open its doors from 10am to 5pm at Kendal Town Hall, located in the centre of Kendal Town Centre.
