Kite surfer dies after crashing into cliffs at Compton Bay on Isle of Wight

A kite surfer has died after crashing into cliffs on the coast of the Isle of Wight.
The accident, which involved a man in his 50s, happened at Compton Bay on Wednesday evening.
Several emergency teams responded and the man was airlifted to hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.
Hampshire Police said: “We were called at 5.38pm on 7 August to an incident involving a kite surfer.
A man in his 50s was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
“We are not treating the death as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
Fire and rescue personnel, the Needles and Ventnor Coastguard teams, a Coastguard helicopter, an air ambulance, local police and an RNLI lifeboat all attended the scene.
In a post on Facebook, Freshwater Fire Station said it was a “fabulous example of our emergency teams working together in very difficult circumstances”.
