Kansas City Chiefs 21-10 Los Angeles Chargers: Kareem Hunt stars again
Written by News on 25/09/2017
Rookie running back Kareem Hunt scored on a 69-yard run late in the fourth quarter to seal the Kansas City Chiefs’ 24-10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, on Sunday.
Hunt’s TD run was his third of over 50 yards or more in as many games – he finished with 172 yards on 17 carries – and it accounted for the only points scored in the second half.
Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith had earlier thrown two touchdown passes in the first nine minutes of the contest, with Kansas City capitalising on two Philip Rivers interceptions.
Rivers would throw a third pick in the second quarter, though this time the Chiefs would only add a 34-yard Cairo Santos field goal off the turnover.
Given Rivers’ struggles, the Chargers did well to trail only 17-10 at half-time – Melvin Gordon scored on an 11-yard run in the first quarter and rookie kicker Younghoe Koo nailed a 29-yard field goal as time expired before the break.
But, defences dominated in a scoreless second half, until Hunt broke free in the final two minutes, scoring his fifth touchdown in his fledgling NFL career.
It confirmed a seventh win in a row for the Chiefs (3-0) over the Chargers (0-3) and earned them a 12th straight win in AFC West divisional games.
Bengals 24-27 Packers (OT)
Mason Crosby booted a 27-yard field goal to give the Packers an overtime victory over the Bengals after they had trailed 21-7 at half-time.
Seahawks 27-33 Titans
In the other late game, Tennessee scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to build a big lead over visitors Seattle before seeing off a late Seahawks charge to hang on for the win.
DeMarco Murray rushed for 115 yards, which included the play of the game – a 75-yard TD for the third of those third-quarter scores.
