Jurgen Klopp says he should take blame, not Alberto Moreno, for Liverpool draw in Sevilla

Written by on 24/11/2017

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted he must shoulder some of the blame for Alberto Moreno’s performance against Sevilla.

The Spain defender, substituted after 63 minutes, endured a torrid time on Tuesday as his former club mounted a spirited comeback from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 in the Champions League match.

Ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Chelsea on Saturday, Klopp leapt to the left-back’s defence, saying he could have made a change earlier in Andalusia.

Klopp said: "I had a talk with Alberto, He’s not the player to blame. I am 100 per cent responsible.

"There are a lot of people over there he knows, saying ‘hello’. His concentration maybe dropped one, two, three per cent.

"Yes the penalty was Alberto and the free-kick was Alberto but it was not one player. Why didn’t we play the back pass for the second goal.

"Why did we have the ball between two of our players for the last goal?

"I could look at my selection, maybe I might have changed things earlier. I’ve told him I still trust him 100 per cent."
