Jose Mourinho debuts on Sky Sports

Written by on 11/08/2019

Jose Mourinho is making his debut as part of the Sky Sports team on Super Sunday.

Mourinho made his first appearance for Sky Sports for this afternoon’s live double-header of Newcastle vs Arsenal and Manchester United vs Chelsea.

A three-time Premier League winner, Mourinho immediately predicted, with a twist, a four-way fight in this year’s title race.

Asked to identify the contenders for the Premier League title, Mourinho replied: “Four: Man City, Tottenham, Liverpool and Man City’s B team.

“When I look at the images of the bench yesterday [when champions Manchester City won 5-0 at West Ham] and even some of the players who were not involved, they could fight for the title.

“Independent of what happens today, even if one of the team plays magnificently and has a fantastic result, I don’t believe they are going to be in the title race.

“And it is also difficult for me, despite them having some good players, to see Arsenal in a title race. But I think Tottenham has to join it.”

Mourinho gives his backing to Lampard
A serial winner across Europe and in English football, Mourinho guided Chelsea to the Premier League title on three occasions across two spells in West London.

Frank Lampard, a linchpin of Mourinho’s first Chelsea team, has been appointed head coach at Stamford Bridge for the new season and faces what Gary Neville believes is “the most brutal gig in football”.

But Mourinho countered: “With Frank in place…Chelsea didn’t buy players, but they bought time.

“I think they can finish fourth. The most difficult job is when you have the pressure to win and if you finish second you are the first of the losers.

“The transfer ban releases the pressure.

“I would always prefer the pressure.”
