Jeremy Hunt warns Russia: ‘The price will always be too high’

Written by on 27/09/2018

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has told Sky News “the price will always be too high” if Russia continues to act against international norms.

In a defiant warning to Moscow, Mr Hunt insisted the UK is “finding ways of putting economic pressure on Russia” in the wake of the use of chemical weapons in Salisbury.

Speaking to The Kay Burley Show, the foreign secretary admitted Russia was “top of the list at the moment” in the challenges he faces.

He informed the Kremlin there will not be a “comfortable place” for Russia in the world if the country continues to behave as it is.

But he stressed there is not “any possibility of war” between Russia and the UK.

In a wide-ranging interview, Mr Hunt also told Iran there will be consequences if they continue to detain UK nationals such as Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

The foreign secretary defended the UK’s relationship with Saudi Arabia, claiming there have been “bombs that have not gone off in the streets of Britain” due to counter-terrorism co-operation between the two countries.

And, on Brexit negotiations, Mr Hunt called for a change in stance from the EU and warned people to not “underestimate” Prime Minister Theresa May.
