Janet Jackson has said she will not be performing with Justin Timberlake during the Super Bowl half-time show in Minneapolis.

It follows speculation that the singer may have been his special guest on stage, 14 years after the two caused controversy when Timberlake ripped Jackson’s top and briefly exposed her breast.

Dubbed “nipplegate”, Timberlake infamously described it as an unintended “wardrobe malfunction”.

CBS, which had aired that year’s Super Bowl, was fined $550,000 by the Federal Communications Commission – but the fine later was overturned.

In a statement on Saturday, Jackson said: “To put to rest any speculation or rumours as to whether I will be performing at the Super Bowl tomorrow; I will not.

“Thank you for your support and I do look forward to seeing you all very soon.”

With the New England Patriots taking on the Philadelphia Eagles at the Super Bowl, Timberlake and his new band – the Tennessee Kids – will provide the half-time entertainment while Pink is to sing the US national anthem.

He is said to have been working tirelessly on the 13-minute performance.

The Super Bowl kicks off at 11.30pm UK time.
