James Anderson replaced by Stuart Broad for England’s final Test against Sri Lanka

Written by on 21/11/2018

James Anderson has confirmed he will be rested for England’s third Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo with Stuart Broad taking his place in the side.

England hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series after wins in Galle and Kandy and Anderson will now sit out the final Test, which gets underway on Friday.

Broad will come in as his replacement after being dropped at the start of the series.

“I’m not playing this game, Broady is going to play instead of me,” said Anderson.

“The thinking is with the series sewn up it’s an opportunity to rotate.”

England could also be forced into a second change for the Colombo Test with Sam Curran an injury doubt.

The 20-year-old suffered a side strain in Kandy and did not bowl in the second innings as England claimed a 57-run win.

Curran did fitness work away from the main group of players on Wednesday but did not join his team-mates in the nets.

Chris Woakes, Jonny Bairstow and uncapped Olly Stone are all possible replacements.
