Written by on 06/07/2020

Police have named the man shot dead in broad daylight near a playground in London over the weekend.

Imani Allaway-Muir, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics found him with gunshot wounds in Islington just after 3pm on Saturday.

One witness reported seeing a man riding off on a bike or moped moments after he heard shots being fired.

The shooting happened near a children’s playground, which is also close to Pentonville Prison in north London.

No arrests have been made but a murder investigation has been launched, Met Police said.

It is to soon to say whether the incident is connected with the jail, which is one of England’s oldest and busiest men’s prisons, the force added.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, of the Met’s specialist crime command, said: “The family of a young man have been left devastated by his death and my team of detectives is working relentlessly to identify and arrest those involved.

“I would urge anyone that has any information, or video footage, of the area at the time of the incident to contact police.”

Mr Allaway-Muir’s death came as the nation came out of lockdown and visited pubs, restaurants and other businesses for the first time in three months.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has video or images that could assist police, is asked to call 101 ref CAD 4432/4 July.
