Hunt for two men after four-year-old girl dies in hit-and-run

Written by on 27/03/2017

A four-year-old girl has died following a hit-and-run in St Helens.

Violet-Grace Youens was walking on Prescot Road with her grandmother, Angela French, when they were struck by a stolen Ford Fiesta on Friday afternoon.

CCTV shows two men fleeing the scene of the crash shortly afterwards.

Violet’s mother, Rebecca Youens, paid tribute to her "brave baby girl" after she died from her injuries in hospital on Saturday.

In a Facebook post, Ms Youens wrote: "Thank you for all your well wishes … she was just too poorly.

"However, my brave baby girl saved two lives by donating her kidneys and pancreas.

"I’m truly heartbroken but proud of my little fighter."

Violet’s family say they hope the organ donations will "benefit other children and give them a chance to lead long and happy lives".

Ms French remains in hospital, where she is in a serious but stable condition.

Merseyside police are appealing for information about the pair who ran away from the crash on foot, who were both white and aged between 15 and 20 years old.

The first man is believed to be about 5ft 10in tall and of a slim build with brown hair. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and blue shorts at the time.

The second man had brown, medium-length hair and was wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts and dark trainers.
