Huddersfield grooming gang: Final four members jailed for 36 years

The final four members of the Huddersfield grooming gang have been sentenced to a total of 36 years – with a judge saying it is “likely that all of these girls will never recover from the abuse they suffered”.
Niaz Ahmed, 54, Mohammed Imran Ibrar, 34, Asif Bashir, 33, and Mohammed Akram, 33, were members of a group of 20 men who abused 15 girls between 2004 and 2011.
The other 16 men had already been jailed for a total of more than 200 years.
Their victims were aged between 11 and 17.
Ahmed, Ibrar, Bashir and Akram were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday having been convicted of 10 offences.
Richard Wright QC, prosecuting, said at the opening of their trial that some of their victims were “plied with drink and drugs to the point of being utterly unable to resist the sexual advances that were made against them”.
Judge Simon Philips QC, sentencing, said the girls were “targeted because of their extreme vulnerability”.
He told the court the victims were subjected to “misery, suffering and despair”.
One of the girls said the ordeal has “basically ruined most of my life”.
Another said she was “constantly getting raped and beaten up” and that after first being raped she felt “dirty, annoyed, mad, scared”.
Mr Philips said: “It is likely that all of these girls will never recover from the abuse they have suffered.
“Their families have been, and remain profoundly affected.
“The way you treated these girls defies understanding.
“None of you have expressed any remorse for what you did.”
Akram was sentenced to 17 years for the trafficking and rape of two girls, with one described as “extremely vulnerable”.
Ahmed was sentenced to five years for offences against two girls, inciting a child to commit a sexual offence and sexual assault.
Ibrar who was nicknamed Bully, was sentenced to three years for trafficking and actual bodily harm against one vulnerable girl.
He left her battered and bleeding before abandoning her on a remote moorland because she refused to perform a sex act.
Bashir was sentenced to 11 years for rape and attempted rape of one girl.
He violently attacked and then abandoned her.
The 20 men have been sentenced across three trials that could not be reported on because of a blanket ban imposed a year ago.
Eight men were jailed in June for a total of 123 years after being convicted of a total of 85 offences.
In a second trial, which ended in June, eight defendants were sentenced to a total of 98 years.
