Health and wellbeing event attracts hundreds of local people

Written by on 20/11/2022

A Common Health Day at Kendal Leisure Centre saw more than 280 local people take part in a range of health and wellbeing activities earlier this month.

People had the opportunity to have a health check at the event, with the Kendal Integrated Care Community (ICC) team carrying out 25 blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI) checks. Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust’s Health, Advice, Recovery, Resilience, Information (HARRI) van also carried out 39 blood pressure checks.

The event included athletics, wheelchair rugby, table tennis, arts and crafts, information stands, a bouncy castle, mindfulness activities and demonstrations from local clubs.

Leisure centre staff served 300 portions of free soup and bread rolls to attendees.

Feedback from attendees included:
“I hope others enjoyed the event as much as I did. So much available in the local area. Brilliant.”
“Thanks, guys. Lots of information to get myself healthier.”
“So many amazing services in the area available to families.”

The health and wellbeing event first took place in November 2018 as ‘Sunday Fun Day’ but was postponed over the past few years due to the Covid pandemic. It was renamed this year as ‘Common Health Day’ to tie in with the Commonwealth Games which took place earlier this year.

The event is a Kendal ICC and Kendal Leisure Centre initiative supported by a range of partners. The free event was aimed at children of primary school age and their families but everyone was welcome to attend.

Cara Stride, Development Lead for Kendal ICC, said: “It was lovely to be able to hold the health and wellbeing event again for the local community and to see everyone having such a good time.

“We want to thank everyone who came along to the event and everyone who helped out on the day. We look forward to next year’s event.”
