Harry and Meghan ‘had nothing to do’ with rules for neighbours, says palace

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had “nothing to do with” a meeting in which neighbours were reportedly told not to approach the couple, Buckingham Palace has said.

People at a Windsor estate residents’ meeting were given a number of “rules”, according to The Sun.

It claimed locals were ordered not to ask to see the couple’s baby Archie or offer to babysit; not to start a conversation with the royals; to avoid petting or stroking their dogs – even if they come over; not to post anything through their letterbox; and to respond with “good morning” or another pleasantry if the couple made conversation.

Harry and Meghan live in Frogmore Cottage on the private Windsor estate, which is also home to many royal and Crown Estate staff and other officials.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: “The Duke and Duchess didn’t request this, didn’t know about it, and had nothing to do with the content or guidance offered.”

The meeting is understood to be one of the regular briefings for people on the estate and that other matters would have also been on the agenda.

The royals’ approach to privacy has been in the spotlight after they held a private christening for their son Archie and decided not to reveal the identity of his godparents.

A royal protection officer was also seen asking a fan at Wimbledon, who was photographing Serena Williams, not to take pictures of Meghan.
