Guy Hedger: Family pays tribute to ‘caring man’ killed during burglary
Written by News on 02/05/2017
The family of Guy Hedger, who was murdered after confronting burglars at his Dorset home, have paid tribute to a "caring and compassionate" man.
Mr Hedger, 61, was shot in the early hours of 30 April after at least two intruders entered his home in Castlewood, Ringwood.
In a statement, his family said: "Guy was a caring and compassionate partner, son, brother and uncle who lived life to its full and enriched the lives of all those who knew him.
"We are devastated that Guy’s life has been cut short in this way. Guy will be sorely missed by family, friends and colleagues, but he will live in our hearts forever."
Police are hunting at least two men who were wearing balaclavas during the burglary. One had a shotgun.
Mr Hedger’s civil partner was in the property at the time and witnessed the attack. He is said to have been "deeply affected by the incident" and is being supported by specially trained officers.
Dan Pringle, who was Mr Hedger’s friend and business associate, described him as a "smart, articulate and witty guy who had an incredible, dry sense of humour".
He added: "Guy was very much a people person – he was all about bringing people together and not taking life too seriously."
A murder investigation has been launched and a manhunt for the suspects is under way.
It is believed that jewellery, including designer watches, was stolen from the property.
Police believe the burglary may have been pre-planned and have called for anyone who saw people or vehicles acting suspiciously in the area to get in contact.
The offenders are not thought to have known the victim.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Derbyshire, from Dorset Police’s major crime investigation team, said: "This was a truly horrific crime and our deepest sympathies go out to Guy’s family and friends. Our thoughts remain with you all.
"The violent offenders responsible for this crime are still at large and we are doing everything in our power to bring these individuals to justice."
