Unai Emery has confirmed Granit Xhaka has been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy, following his much-publicised dispute with the fans.
Emery told Xhaka on Tuesday morning he was no longer part of the Gunners’ leadership group and said that Xhaka “accepted” the decision.
The 27-year-old Switzerland international was left out of Arsenal’s squad for their Europa League tie with Vitoria on Thursday.
Xhaka has not played for the club since he reacted angrily towards the home fans when he was booed following his substitution against Crystal Palace at the Emirates on October 27.
