Glastonbury: Security guard found dead in tent at music festival

Written by on 02/07/2019

A security guard has been found dead in a tent at the Glastonbury music festival.

The man, in his 60s, was discovered at 5pm on Sunday – the day after the site sizzled on the hottest day of the year.

He had been working night shifts for G4S, and the company said his next of kin had been informed.

The man is not believed to have collapsed because of the heat, and his death is not being treated as suspicious, Avon and Somerset Police said.

The security guard had not been working in the 24 hours before his death, and a coroner has been informed.

The force said it was “made aware of the sudden death of a man in his 60s on one of the campsites at Glastonbury Festival”.

It added: “Officers attended and are satisfied the man’s death is not suspicious.”

A G4S spokesperson said: “At 5:00 pm on Sunday 30 June, one of our employees was found dead in his tent at Glastonbury Festival, where he had been working as a security officer.

“The next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.”

Now the festival is over, a huge clean-up operation is under way.

More than 1,300 volunteers have started to remove rubbish from the 900-acre site.

Some of the discarded items included camping chairs, blow-up mattresses, slippers, and flip-flops.
