Written by on 01/01/2020

A 10-year-old girl who died in hospital after being hit by an ambulance has been named by her family as Shaniqua Loftman-Smith.

In a statement confirming the victim’s name, Nottinghamshire Police said her family had shared a photograph of Shaniqua and asked that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.

The ambulance was on an emergency call when it hit Shaniqua, who was walking along a road in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire on 22 December.

Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement: “The ambulance was responding to an emergency call at the time of the collision in Low Wood Road, between Hempshill Lane and Seller’s Wood Drive, Bulwell, at 6.30pm on Sunday 22 December.

“The girl was a pedestrian.

“Nottinghamshire Police would like to offer their condolences to the girl’s family, who have asked for privacy at this difficult time.”

The collision is being investigated and officers have asked any witnesses and anyone who may have dashcam footage or information to call police on 101, quoting incident number 650 of 22 December.
