German Police arrest Gelsenkirchen man over alleged assault on Manchester City supporter

German Police have arrested a 30-year-old man from Gelsenkirchen over the alleged assault of a Manchester City fan after the Champions League game against Schalke.
The 32-year-old English supporter suffered a life-threatening “massive brain injury” on Wednesday and remains in a medically-induced coma in hospital.
The City fan was leaving the Veltins Arena with his parents and sister when he was punched to the floor, hitting his head which caused severe injuries.
The suspect was described as being part of the ‘Hugos’ – the group of Ultras connected to Schalke.
City continue to support the victim’s family, with both parents remaining in Germany to be close to him.
Two City staff members are working with the family, one of which has a background in victim support.
