Former Friends star Matthew Perry has said he has spent the past three months in hospital after suffering a ruptured bowel.
Perry, who played Chandler Bing in the US sitcom, tweeted on Friday to say: “Three months in a hospital bed.
“Check.”
It comes a month after his spokeswoman confirmed that the 49-year-old was in hospital recovering from surgery, saying “he is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals”.
A punctured bowel – or gastrointestinal perforation – can occur along any point in the wall of the gastrointestinal tract, including the stomach, small intestine and large intestine.
Symptoms include severe abdominal pain.
The Canadian-American actor found fame in the 1990s when he was one of the six lead characters in Friends.
Alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, he was one of the most recognisable faces on TV.
Friends ended in 2004, but fans rejoiced when all 10 series were brought to Netflix in January this year.
Perry previously said he would not want to take part in a Friends reunion because it would “ruin” the sitcom’s ending.
He also appeared in the films The Whole Nine Yards and Fools Rush In.
Perry told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel in 2017 that he fought the Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau in fifth grade.
He recalled: “My friend Chris Muray, who was in the fifth grade in Canada, reminded me that we actually beat up Justin Trudeau.
“We both beat him up.”
The Canadian leader jokingly replied on Twitter: “I’ve been giving it some thought, and you know what, who hasn’t wanted to punch Chandler?
“How about a rematch?”
