The 50-year-old, who played Chandler Bing on the show, got some of his 1.5 million followers riled up by tweeting: “Big news coming…”

The post was met with an influx of excited replies and memes, with many users asking: “Friends reunion?”

One follower said: “Could you BE anymore vague?” – a play on how his character emphasised the word “be” while making sarcastic comments.

Another Twitter user replied: “Oh please say you’ll be gracing tv with your presence again. I have missed you!”

In December, Perry’s co-star Jennifer Aniston insisted that the Friends cast were still trying to push for a reunion special.

She previously teased fans on The Ellen Show when she said she was “working on something” with Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Perry.

However last month, Schwimmer, who starred as Ross Geller on the hit US sitcom, dismissed rumours of a possible revival.

He told The Guardian he does not want to resurrect the characters, saying: “I just don’t think it’s possible, given everyone’s different career trajectories.

“I think everyone feels the same – why mess with what felt like the right way to end the series?

“I don’t want to do anything for the money. It would have to make sense creatively and nothing I’ve heard so far, presented to us, makes sense.”

The US sitcom is a hit with a new generation after the complete ten seasons aired on Netflix.

Schwimmer said he believes that is because Friends was made before the age of social media when people “actually sat and talked to each other”.
