French Open: Johanna Konta loses semi-final to Vondrousova

Britain’s Johanna Konta has lost the French Open semi-final to Czech teenager Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets.
Konta was hoping to become the first British woman to reach the Roland-Garros final since Sue Barker, who won the title in 1976.
But she lost 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) to Vondrousova.
Despite failing to capitalise on her opportunities, she insisted she had no regrets.
“There is nothing for me to be disappointed in or upset about,” she said.
“I lost a tennis match, but I also won five. I can only take the good things from that.
“Because even today, I lost the match but I did the best that I could and I’m proud of that effort.
“I’m proud of that achievement in itself. So I can only look forward to playing at Wimbledon and the tournaments before that.”
Konta got off to an excellent start, winning the first 10 points of the match.
But she let a golden chance to win the opening set slip away when she failed to convert on three set points at 5-3.
Playing in a front of a sparse crowd on Court Simonne Mathieu, the British number one took the lead in the second set, but failed to serve it out and was forced to a tie-break.
Vondrousova, a 19-year-old-left hander, will face Australian Ashleigh Barty in the final.
Konta became the first British woman since Jo Durie in 1983 to make it through to the last four in Paris.
It was her third Grand Slam semi-final after defeats at the Australian Open in 2016 and Wimbledon two years ago.
