Written by on 25/07/2019

Four boys aged between 15 and 17 have been charged with an aggravated hate crime over a homophobic attack on two women on a London bus.

Melania Geymonat, 28, from Uruguay, and her American girlfriend Chris were on a night bus heading home to Camden, north London, on 30 May when the incident took place.

Both women suffered facial injuries and were left bloodied after the attack.

They had been asked to kiss but refused.

Two 16-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old have been charged under the Public Order Act.

One of the 16-year-olds, who is from Wandsworth in south London, was also charged with theft and handling stolen goods, and the other, from Kensington and Chelsea, is accused of possessing cannabis.

The 15-year-old, also from Kensington and Chelsea, faces another charge of handling stolen goods.

The boys are due to appear at Highbury Coroner Youth Court on 21 August.
