Flookburgh man jailed for indecent images offences

A man who had indecent images of children on his devices has become the latest offender to be sentenced after being caught by Cumbria’s Cyber and Digital Crime Unit.Andrew Stopforth, 54, of Flookburgh, appeared before Preston Crown Court today (26 May) following investigations by detectives.His sentencing is the latest to come as a result of Operation Alliance – Cumbria’s ongoing work to protect the county from serious and organised crime.Stopforth admitted three counts of making indecent images of children as well as three charges of voyeurism.He was sentenced to 32 months imprisonment and will be subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years. Stopforth is now also subject of indefinite sex offender notification requirements.Stopforth’s arrest came after information was received by police about an indecent image of a child.Enquiries identified Stopforth as a suspect and a search warrant was carried out at his house and his devices seized.Also on his devices were images of people unaware their images were being captured.Speaking after sentence, Detective Constable Sarah Aiston said: “Our unit works all-year-round carrying out unseen policing to protect the public.“We operate a dedicated team of skilled officers who are trained to specifically deal with these types of offences.“We will do our upmost to ensure such offenders are brought to justice.”Anyone with information can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it.You can also phone on 101.Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
