Fabian Delph out of England squad to play Slovenia and Lithuania in World Cup Qualifiers
Written by News on 02/10/2017
Fabian Delph has withdrawn from the England squad to face Slovenia and Lithuania due to a muscle strain and will return to Manchester City for treatment, Sky sources understand.
Delph last played for England in November 2015 and missed Euro 2016 with a groin strain.
He has struggled to secure a regular place in City’s side since joining from Aston Villa in July 2015 but has played five times for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, including the 1-0 win at Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
Manchester United defender Phil Jones is another injury doubt for England boss Gareth Southgate.
Jones missed training on Monday morning and has been assessed by the FA’s medical team.
Watch highlights of England v Slovenia on Thursday. Coverage begins on Sky Sports Football at 10pm.
