Former Home and Away actor Joel McIlroy has been charged with repeatedly punching a female police officer.

The ex-soap star, 46, appeared in court in Surry Hills, Sydney, following the incident on Tuesday.
New South Wales Police said McIlroy had approached officers who were arresting a man for minor property-related offences.
After police told him to leave, he allegedly shoulder-charged a senior female officer.
The officers attempted to arrest McIlroy and there was a struggle which caused the actor and two police to fall to the ground.
A member of the public helped police to restrain McIlroy and he was taken to Surry Hills police station.
The 29-year-old female officer suffered injuries to her face, neck and shoulder and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
She is expected to be discharged today.
