England’s Danny Cipriani issues apology for assault in Jersey

Written by on 16/08/2018

England fly-half Danny Cipriani has apologised after pleading guilty to common assault and resisting arrest, saying he is “mortified”.

Cipriani was fined £2,000 on Thursday after pleading guilty at Jersey Magistrates’ Court to common assault and resisting arrest.

The 30-year-old Gloucester player was charged on Wednesday, having been arrested following an incident at a Jersey nightclub in the early hours of the morning.

“I want to start with a heartfelt apology,” he said on Twitter. “To my club, team-mates, supporters and most importantly the police. They have a tough and vital job and I’m mortified that, earlier this week, I acted in a way that I hugely regret.

“I am truly sorry.”
