Eggs thrown at baby in ‘racially aggravated’ assault
Written by News on 05/09/2019
A baby was hit by eggs in a drive-by assault that police believe was racially motivated in Worcestershire.
A mother and nine-month-old child were crossing the road by the Shrub Hill Retail Park in Worcester when an as yet unidentified man threw eggs from his vehicle.
Neither was seriously injured, but the child’s face was left red, with police saying that the assault “left the victims understandably shaken”.
Police have appealed to the public for information, saying that they believed the motivation for the attack was race-based.
“While no arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing and we are currently reviewing CCTV footage to try to identify the vehicle involved,” said Sergeant Paul Smith from West Mercia Police.
“We realise this incident will cause concern among the community and want to reassure the public that we take reports of this nature very seriously and will continue to patrol the area.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
