A conference dedicated to promoting physical and mental wellbeing in children and young people in Cumbria is taking place in Penrith in March.

Organised by Active Cumbria, Primary school head teachers and PE Leads are being invited to attend ‘Physical Activity and Movement – The Curriculum and Beyond’ which will feature keynote speaker presentations as well as workshops and opportunities to share best practice to help support the delivery of physical activity and movement in schools.

Keynote speakers include: Westmorland and Furness Council Director of Public Health, Katrina Stephens; Strategic Policy Lead for Children and Young People at Sport England, Jo Moss; and Founder of The Daily Mile, Elaine Wyllie MBE.

Kirsty Williamson, Active Cumbria Children and Young People Development Officer for Education, said; “We are thrilled to be hosting this conference dedicated to physical activity and movement in children and young people.

“The event brings together education professionals from across the county to help understand the issues and challenges children and young people face in Cumbria, and the importance of physical and mental wellbeing.

“The day will be a balance of learning, understanding and professional development through the delivery of a range of workshops to further develop practice which can be taken back to the classroom. It’s going to be an exciting and energised day.”

The event takes place at the North Lakes Hotel, Penrith on Thursday 7 March 2024 from 9.15am – 3.45pm.  Tickets are available via the Active Cumbria website at www.activecumbria.org until 26 February.
