Crawford vs Indongo: Dillian Whyte blasts past Malcolm Tann on American debut

Written by on 20/08/2017

Dillian Whyte moved closer to a world title shot against Deontay Wilder after stopping Malcolm Tann in the third round on his American debut at the Pinnacle Bank Arena, Lincoln.

Whyte, 29, proved a class above Tann who was dropped to the canvas on four occasions before the referee eventually called a halt to the contest.

The Brixton man, who improves his record to 21-1-KO16, finished the heavyweight clash with a series of destructive left hooks to the body that left Tann grimacing in pain.

‘The Body Snatcher’ took his time to get into his full stride, happy to jab and move in the opening stanza, but exploded into life in the next, quickly backing his American opponent up on to the ropes and teeing off on the head and body.

Whyte soon forced ‘The Showstopper’ to take a knee after a heavy assault and although Tann managed to beat the count, he was downed just moments later following another series of punishing blows.

Despite being severely outclassed, the North Carolina native bit down on the gum-shield and came out for the third, but was soon under siege again.

A looping overhand right wobbled Tann before a huge, chopping left hook to the body again knocked the 38-year-old down to the canvas.

”The Showstopper’ showed a huge amount of heart to once again beat the count, returning to his feet and furiously clapping his gloves together.

The London heavyweight gleefully accepted the invite and another huge shot to the body again floored his senior opponent, before the referee decided he had seen enough.
