COVID-19: Man denies conning 92-year-old woman into paying for ‘fake coronavirus vaccine’

Written by on 12/02/2021

A man has denied allegedly tricking a 92-year-old woman into paying for a fake COVID-19 vaccine.

David Chambers pleaded not guilty to two counts of fraud by false representation and one charge of battery during a plea and trial preparation hearing at Kingston Crown Court on Friday.

The 33-year-old is alleged to have turned up at the victim’s home in Surbiton, southwest London, on the afternoon of 30 December claiming he was there to administer a COVID-19 vaccine.

The woman is said to have allowed Chambers into her home after which he administered the jab and told her she needed to pay a fee for it.

City of London Police previously said the woman was allegedly charged £160.

Chambers faces a charge of assault by beating against the alleged victim on the same date.

He is also accused of falsely claiming on 4 January that the pensioner owed him a further £100.

Chambers, from Surbiton, was remanded in custody by Judge Judith Coello.

The case was adjourned and the trial is due to be held at Kingston Crown Court from 9 August.
