Councillors release video on Windermere Ferry fiasco

Written by on 06/07/2018

Two councillors, representing communities separated since May by the ongoing suspension of the Windermere Ferry, have released a video to highlight the ongoing plight of local and visitors, and put pressure on Cumbria’s Liberal Democrat and Labour County Council to act to restore the service before the school summer holidays.

Yesterday, the council broke weeks of silence the issue to say that its current workplan means the Ferry could be out of action until October 2018.

Windermere councillor, Ben Berry, said: “We need the Ferry back. We should have had it back weeks ago but we need it at least before the start of the school summer holidays on 20 July, and that is what we are calling on the county council to do.”

High Furness councillor Matt Brereton said: “I represent the west side of Lake Windermere. The council has not even got out adequate diversion signs. It’s not good enough.”
