Background

Consultation launched on Community Governance Review proposals

Written by on 01/05/2018

Residents in Heysham are due to be visited by representatives of Lancaster City Council to establish whether they would like to be covered by a new parish council.

From now until May 28, city council staff will be undertaking a door to door visit of the area to record the views of residents.

The proposals potentially affect approximately 6,000 properties and 9,900 registered electors and, if successful, the new parish would hold its first elections next May.

The consultation follows the launch of a Community Governance Review earlier this year.

The first stage of the review asked residents and organisations whether any changes need to be made to the district’s current parish arrangements.

As a result of the views received, three proposals are being taken forward to the next stage:

•       The creation of a parish council for Heysham
•       The merging of Yealand Conyers and Yealand Redmayne Parish Councils
•       The change of name of Thurnham Parish Council

Residents living in Yealand Conyers, Yealand Redmayne and Thurnham will receive a letter outlining the proposals and asking for their views.

The terms of reference for the review and more details of the proposals are available on the council’s website at Lancaster.gov.uk/governance-review, along with details of how to get involved.

The deadline for submission of views is May 31.
