A child is being treated in a London hospital for life-threatening injuries after being bitten by a dog, police have said.
Kent Police said they were called to the Jenkins Dale area of Chatham, Kent, at 5.26pm on Tuesday.
Firearms officers were among those attending the scene and the animal was shot dead.
Neighbour Jaspreet Uppal said: "First I heard a gunshot. There was a dog on the floor.
"A few officers carried out a child from the back area of the flats. There is a little park there.
"I could not see the child, they were covered. I think they were quite small."
Two people have been arrested and taken into custody.
"Horrible news from Chatham this evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the child and their family tonight," said local MP Tracey Crouch.
Kent Police have asked people who may have footage of what happened to get in touch – and not to share it on social media.
