Championship, League One and League Two… What can happen and how to follow Easter Monday action

Written by on 22/04/2019

There could be several promotions confirmed across the Sky Bet EFL on Easter Monday. Here is how you can watch and follow all the action on Sky Sports…

Here, we take you through the permutations and how you can follow the Championship, League One and League Two on Sky Sports

Who can go up or down on Monday?

Championship

Norwich will be confirmed as title winners if they beat Stoke at the bet365 Stadium and both Sheffield United and Leeds fail to win their games against Hull (3pm) and Brentford (5.15pm).

Fourth-placed West Brom will guarantee a play-off berth with a win at Reading or a draw, if Bristol City drop points at Sheffield Wednesday, but a defeat would do if Middlesbrough also drop points against Nottingham Forest (3pm) and the Robins lose. QPR need just a point to preserve their Championship status.

The battle to avoid the drop will continue until the weekend, at least, with no team able to join Bolton and Ipswich in the final relegation place. However, should Rotherham lose to Birmingham and other results go against them, they will be six points adrift and have an inferior goal difference with two games to play.

League One

With three games to go, Luton are on the verge of securing a return to the Championship. They beat Accrington 3-0 on Saturday and could take a step closer to the title if Barnsley slip up away at Plymouth, and one of Sunderland or Portsmouth drop points against Peterborough or Coventry respectively, with the latter on Sky Sports Football from 12.30pm.

Then a win for the Hatters on Tuesday night at home to AFC Wimbledon would seal their promotion, as Sunderland and Portsmouth both play one another on Saturday – meaning one of the chasing pack must drop points.

As was the case at the start of the weekend, the race for the second automatic-promotion spot remains incredibly tight. Barnsley (2nd), Sunderland (3rd) and Portsmouth (4th) have all booked at least a play-off spot but all are separated by just two points. Charlton (5th) are six points adrift of the top two having lost 2-1 to Oxford.

Bradford became the first side to be relegated from League One on Good Friday after their 2-0 defeat to Oxford, but with just five points separating Accrington in 16th from Walsall in 23rd, it’s unclear who’ll join them as yet.

League Two

Despite their defeat to Carlisle on Good Friday, Danny Cowley’s Lincoln will be crowned champions with a home win over Tranmere. Mansfield, MK Dons and Bury have already secured play-off places, at a minimum, but the trio will be hoping to make headway from one another, with just three points between them ahead of kick-off.

Down at the bottom Macclesfield (39 points), Yeovil (37) and Notts County (37) continue their battle for survival, with two of the three likely to go down, although nothing will be resolved on Monday.
