Champions League winners Liverpool enjoy heroes welcome

Liverpool enjoyed a heroes welcome after returning to Merseyside from their triumphant 2-0 Champions League final victory over Tottenham.
Tens of thousands of fans flooded the streets of Merseyside as Jurgen Klopp’s men took to a red open-top double-decker bus emblazoned with the words ‘Champions of Europe’ to celebrate the win.
Starting at Allerton Maze, the parade is currently travelling towards The Strand before ending in a celebration on the city’s waterfront.
There are fireworks, flares and tickertape throughout the route with supporters waiting for a glimpse of their heroes from any vantage point possible – tables and chairs to traffic lights and railings.
Serenaded along the way, captain Jordan Henderson has been orchestrating the singing from the front of the bus with one hand carefully on the coveted trophy throughout.
After declaring Saturday’s win as “the best night of our professional lives”, boss Klopp declared the parade as the moment the club’s achievement would really start to sink in.
“It will be the moment when we really understand what we did because it is for the people,” Klopp said.
“It is the people’s cup and we did it for them so we will see now the smiles and joy in their faces and doing it together with the team, who are so close to each other – which doesn’t happen a lot – that will be outstanding.”
Defender Joe Gomez echoed his boss’ sentiments before boarding the bus: “The parade is the bit the boys are looking forward to the most and that’s what it’s all about, we do it to share with our supporters and we know how much it means to them.”
