Premier League players intend to make “significant financial contributions” to support their clubs and non-playing staff during the coronavirus crisis, the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) has announced.

Liverpool have announced they have placed some non-playing staff on furlough as the Premier League remains suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The organisers of the Cheltenham Festival have defended their decision to go ahead with the meeting last month, after fears were raised the mass gathering helped spread coronavirus more widely around the country.

The Premier League held talks with the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) on Saturday over clubs’ proposals to cut player wages by 30 per cent during the coronavirus pandemic.
