Cash boost for young people’s groups.

Grants for young people’s groups in Rossendale, Wyre and the Ribble Valley have been agreed by Lancashire County Council’s cabinet.

More than £6,000 is being handed out to fund activities that will help young people to learn and develop new skills.

Grants are being given to the following groups:

• Explorer Scouts in Wyre, which has received £1,400 to buy new camping equipment
• Vision in Rossendale, which is being handed £2,000 to convert a large window into a wheelchair-accessible double door at Woodlea Youth Centre
• Carers Link Lancashire, who will use the grant, worth more than £1,400, to deliver a three-day outdoor activity workshop for young carers
• Fleetwood Sea Cadets, which has secured £1,600 to buy kayaks, paddles and other equipment

These grants have been recommended for approval by local district youth councils.

County Councillor Susie Charles, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools, said: “We’re pleased to fund these groups, which provide important community activities for young people across Lancashire.

“They give opportunities for young people to socialise, be more active and develop vital skills that will help them to grow their confidence and become more independent.

“Everyone involved with these groups does a fantastic job. I’m pleased that young people who sit on local youth councils have recommended the projects to us for approval.

“Any groups that are interested in applying for funding should contact their local district youth council.”

Lancashire County Council’s family and wellbeing service has made £111,000 grant funding available for young people’s groups in 2017/18.
