Cardiff to honour Emiliano Sala before Arsenal game

Written by on 28/01/2019

Cardiff are planning to honour their missing striker Emiliano Sala before the game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

The Bluebirds will be playing their first match since the plane carrying record-signing Sala and pilot David Ibbotson went missing over the English Channel last week.

Cardiff players, management and staff will wear yellow daffodils on their clothing while travelling to the Emirates.

The Cardiff captain will then lay a bunch of daffodils on the pitch before kick-off, while the Arsenal captain will lay a bunch of tulips at the same time.

A picture of Sala will be displayed on the stadium’s big screen and will be preceded by ‘appropriate’ words over the PA system.

However, Cardiff players will not have daffodils sewn onto their match shirts and will not wear black armbands at the request of Sala’s family.

Sala’s family have arrived in Guernsey, while a new search for the plane has begun after a GoFundMe page raised over €300,000.
