Brexit Party reveals 100 ‘new politics’ MP candidates

Written by on 01/07/2019

The Brexit Party has revealed its roster of 100 would-be MPs, who are ready to stand in a general election.

The list of candidates include teachers, an economist and a forklift truck driver, who are representing the party in what Nigel Farage has branded “the new politics”.

Speaking at a Birmingham rally in front of more than 5,000 glow stick-wielding party supporters, Mr Farage vowed to increase the number of prospective candidates to 650 – the number of seats in Westminster – by the end of next week.

He said: “This fine group of people are but a start.

“There is a big message that Westminster needs to hear – we are not a protest movement.”

Mr Farage said the party’s first weeks had been “unbelievable”, citing support and recent success.

“We have now got 115,000 registered supporters and almost unbelievably we have managed on four occasions to top the polls for how do you intend to vote in the next general election.”

Touching on the recent Peterborough by-election, he added: “There are many seats in the country, especially many Labour-held seats in the country, where we are now the challenger – where only we can beat the Labour Party.”

The former UKIP leader later asked supporters to assist in campaigning to “stand up and fight” local elections and future general elections.

He said: “I think the rest of the world will be looking at this, wondering about this because this is the new politics.

“I am asking for your help because beyond the general election, maybe even before the general election, we will have to find thousands of people to stand up and fight local elections for us, right across the country.”
