Boyzone have continued the Australian leg of their farewell tour without Keith Duffy after he was admitted to hospital in Thailand.

The singer, 44, was taken to hospital before the band’s gig in Bangkok “on the advice of the local medical team” and was told he would be unable to make their next tour date in Perth.

After the Australian show on Saturday, the group said it was a “bittersweet experience” performing without Duffy, but said he had been in touch throughout the day and was “responding well” to hospital treatment.

In a video posted on their Facebook page before the gig, the group said: “Unfortunately as you can see we are only three – our Keith Duffy is lost in Thailand.

“He’s not well and we don’t know exactly what is happening with him at the moment, there are a lot of blood tests… he’s in the hospital right now, hopefully recovering, fingers crossed.”

They added that Duffy would be joining the group again “hopefully sooner rather than later”.

A separate post on Friday confirmed the Irish singer was being treated for a viral infection and had stayed overnight in hospital in Bangkok.

Bandmate Ronan Keating said Duffy had been on a “downward spiral” before the group were due to perform in Thailand’s capital.

He told Magic Breakfast the group had to leave their bandmate in hospital to fly to Australia, but his wife Lisa had remained with him.

Boyzone said they felt “positive” the band would be back together for their second Australian date in Adelaide on Tuesday.
