A woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after a 10-year-old boy was found dead in a caravan, police have said.
It was earlier reported that the child had died after being found unconscious at the property in Birmingham.
Emergency services were called to an address in Blossomville Way in Acocks Green shortly before 7.30am this morning.
West Midlands Police said: “The 10-year-old boy was taken to hospital but nothing could be done to save him. He was sadly pronounced dead at around 8.20am.”
Police said his death “is currently being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem will take place in due course”.
The woman under arrest is 44 years old.
Detective Inspector Joe Davenport said: “This is a truly tragic incident in which a young boy has been found dead.
“We understand he had some underlying health issues and was admitted to hospital recently. We’ve launched an inquiry to understand what happened in the days leading up to his death and to determine if any factor have contributed to his death.”
The force asks that anyone with information calls West Midlands Police on 101 or Live Chat via WMP Online, quoting log 412 from 22 August.
