Detectives searching for a boy who boarded a bus alone in a “distressed state” – wearing slippers and a dressing gown – have confirmed he has been found.
The child, believed to be about 11 or 12 years old, is now safe and with his family.
Nottinghamshire Police had been called after the boy travelled on a bus service heading towards Derby at about 10.15pm on Saturday.
He told the driver he had been staying with friends in the Stapleford area of Nottinghamshire and was heading towards Chaddesden in Derby – but he was seen getting off the bus and walking back towards Nottingham.
Police were concerned for his well-being because he did not have access to money or a charged phone.
Officers worked through the night and into the early hours of Sunday morning to establish the boy’s identity and to find out where he was.
Inspector Paul Hennessy, who ran the Nottinghamshire Police’s search effort, said: “I’m pleased to report that contact has now been made with the boy and his family and we’re satisfied that he is now safe.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community, the bus company and everyone else who helped in the search for the boy for their cooperation and support during this investigation.”
