Boy, 14, dies after crashing stolen car during police chase

A 14-year-old boy has died after crashing a suspected stolen car while being pursued by police.
The Fiat 500 collided with two other cars as officers attempted to stop it in Wigan at about 1.30pm on Friday.
The driver was taken to hospital and pronounced dead in the early hours of Saturday.
Two other boys found at the scene in Ashton Road, Golborne, were also taken to hospital.
One of them, 15, is in a critical but stable condition, while a second 14-year-old suffered minor injuries and has since been discharged.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
“We have made initial contact with the boy’s family to explain our involvement and express our condolences,” the office said.

Sergeant Jon McColl, from Greater Manchester Police, said: “First and foremost, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the boy who passed away this morning.
“The serious collision investigation unit is continuing with inquiries so that the full circumstances surrounding the collision can be established.”
