Bolton: Boy, 10, stabbed and man arrested on suspicion of assault

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a 10-year-old boy was stabbed in Bolton.
The child was taken to hospital in a stable condition from Bridgeman Street and was expected to be soon discharged, police said.
Officers were called at about 1.20pm on Saturday to reports of a 10-year-old boy having been stabbed.
Greater Manchester Police said it is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public.
Specialist officers searching the area after the assault arrested an 18-year-old man and he is being questioned by detectives, a police spokesman said .
Neighbours came out on to the street as an air ambulance landed nearby, several police cars arrived and a cordon was put in place on the road.
One mother told the Manchester Evening News: “I do worry about my own children. I always see that little boy walking down the street with his mum and I know them to wave to, I really hope he’s ok.”
Detective Superintendent Joanne Rawlinson said: “No child should ever be the victim of such a distressing incident and my thoughts are with this young boy and his family as he receives medical treatment in hospital.
“We are pleased to hear the news that the boy is doing well and that he may be discharged later today. We hope that he makes a full and quick recovery.
“I appreciate that such news is likely to cause upset and shock within the local community, as well as the wider public, but I can assure you that we are doing absolutely everything we can to piece together the circumstances of this incident.”
