The body recovered from the Humber Estuary near Grimsby Docks has been confirmed to be a woman.
Formal identification is yet to place and police are unable to confirm the identity of the victim.
A post-mortem is underway and is expected under way and is expected to continue in the evening.
Police said in a statement: “We have been in contact and informed those that needed to be aware of the recovery.”
Officers were called to the docks just before 3pm on Wednesday and a lifeboat was seen moored in the estuary.
Police are still searching for missing student Libby Squire, 21, who disappeared after a night out in Hull more than six weeks ago.
