Bellew vs Haye II: David Coldwell believes Tony Bellew will repeat his success over David Haye
Written by News on 01/10/2017
Trainer David Coldwell believes Tony Bellew will clear up any doubts by beating David Haye in their rematch.
The heavyweight rivals meet again at The O2, London, on December 17, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Bellew won their March showdown in the 11th round after Haye had damaged his Achilles, and Coldwell admits people are still saying his boxer’s success was simply down to the injury.
But even if ‘Bomber’ is already considered as the underdog, his trainer is confident there will be no doubts this time.
"We’ve got half the people saying we fluked it, if David Haye hadn’t got injured, we’d have got beat," Coldwell told Sky Sports.
"But also from our perspective it went exactly how were aiming. Before the fight look at what we were saying, at the press conferences, it was exactly what happened – we even said his body wouldn’t be able to hold out.
"We weren’t concerned about the early rounds, the fight went how we thought it was going to go.
"As for this second fight, he (Bellew) is going to clear things up. Was this a fluke? Was it for real?"
Coldwell also revealed he was expecting more from Haye in the first fight.
‘Hayemaker’ is a former world heavyweight champion, while Bellew was making his first appearance in boxing’s most prestigious division.
"I actually expected a better David Haye in the first one," he said.
"I expected him to be faster and lighter – that was the main point – so this time I do believe he will come in lighter.
"He (Bellew) loves being the underdog. People will be saying it already that he is going to get blasted out in a round or two again. Let’s see what happens."
