Bay Health and Care Partners to focus on prevention at Westmorland County Show

This year’s NHS tent at the Westmorland Show (Thursday 13 September) will focus on the prevention and management of long-term conditions and disease like diabetes, stroke and dementia, as well as celebrating the long-serving health and care organisations’ 70th birthday.
The fun filled, informative day will give visitors plenty of opportunities to get involved and find out more about important health subjects such as breast screening, sexual health, mental health and blood pressure checks.
The Flourish team will be on hand to talk to people about University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust’s (UHMBT) Flourish at Work health and wellbeing campaign for staff. Delicious and nutritious snacks will be on offer inside the marquee courtesy of our hospital chefs and Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) Active Cumbria will lead pop up sports including Trikes, hand cycles and recumbent cycles.
Sue Smith, Executive Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Executive, UHMBT, said: “I am excited to welcome people from the South Lakes and further afield to the Bay Health and Care Partners marquee, where they can hear and experience the latest developments across the wide variety of health services we offer in Morecambe Bay
“By focusing on supporting people to manage their long-term health conditions can significantly improve their quality of life and promote long-term changes in their physical and mental health.”
Cara Stride, Kendal Integrated Care Community Development Lead, said: “Kendal ICC will have lots of information and fun for everyone in the NHS marquee at the Westmorland Show. Our nurses will be providing free health checks for adults and there will be free fruit and healthy activities for the little ones. Age UK will be joining us to talk about falls prevention, South Lakes District Housing will be there to talk about assisted living and the I Matter project to discuss children’s emotional wellbeing. Also the Dementia Alliance Association will be offering advice and details of where to go for support.”
Dr Richard Russell, Local GP in Kendal, said: “The Westmorland County Show is a fantastic way for the local community to have conversations with health professionals from Kendal and right across Morecambe Bay.
“This year the focus will be on prevention and how we can all work together to keep our communities happy and well. We hope to see lots of local people on the day, whatever the weather!”
The day will provide visitors with an opportunity to ask questions about their own health and meet the teams from our partner organisations who provide health services.
A variety of NHS staff will come together in the Bay Health and Care Partners marquee from our partner organisations including Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT), UHMBT, Morecambe Bay Clinical Commissioning Group,North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) as well as Kendal Integrated Care Community.
Lancaster Medical Museum will help showcase a variety of old medical equipment from the across the bay. They would also like people to come and share their memories of working for the NHS over the years.
The Westmorland Show is located at the showground near Crooklands, Kendal.
