The hit shows are both up for best drama series at the ceremony in London, along with Sky Atlantic’s Save Me and BBC show Informer.

Killing Eve stars Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh are nominated for best leading actress, along with Keeley Hawes – who played fictional home secretary Julia Montague on Bodyguard – and Ruth Wilson for her role on drama series Mrs Wilson.

Hawes is also up for best supporting actress for her role in Mrs Wilson.

One surprise snub was the lack of a leading actor nomination for Bodyguard star Richard Madden, who has been tipped to be cast as the next James Bond on the back of his Golden Globe-winning performance.

Benedict Cumberbatch is nominated for the award for his performance in Sky Atlantic mini-series Patrick Melrose, along with Hugh Grant for A Very English Scandal.

Killing Eve, written by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, also has nominations in the supporting actor and actress categories for Kim Bodnia and Fiona Shaw.

The show, which first aired in the US on BBC America, is nominated despite BAFTA’s own rules stating that a programme must have premiered in the UK.

BAFTA said there was “significant creative contribution from key UK talent throughout the production” and “the television committee is the arbiter of all eligibility”.

Ant and Dec have been nominated for best entertainment performance for Saturday Night Takeaway, alongside Britain’s Got Talent, Strictly Come Dancing and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.

It comes after Ant McPartlin stepped away from his TV roles after being arrested for drink-driving, before returning to work on Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year.

Sky One show A League Of Their Own has been nominated in the best comedy entertainment programme category, where it will compete with The Big Narstie Show, The Last Leg and Would I Lie To You?.

Comedian Graham Norton is hosting the ceremony, having last fronted the show in 2016.
