Shaun Marsh hit a superb unbeaten 126 as Australia took firm control on day two of the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval.
WHAT THEY SAID
Trevor Bayliss, speaking to BT Sport: "It’s not nice to bat under the lights so it was a little bit of a bonus for us. We look forward to tomorrow and batting big. A score of 440-odd is not huge here in Australia and hopefully, the pitch flattens out as the game goes on.
"I was very happy with Joe’s decision [to bowl]. It’s been well documented we have struggled to take wickets on flat [pitches], so Joe wanted to give our bowlers the best opportunity to take 20 wickets.
"I thought we were a little bit short before the rain break but we bowled well after that [on Saturday] and went past the bat a lot. Two or three more nicks and it might have been different but that’s cricket."
Shaun Marsh, speaking to BT Sport: "The way Tim Paine and then Pat Cummins batted to get us over that 400 mark, it was a good day for us.
"It would have been nice to get all the overs in tonight but hopefully, we can come out tomorrow morning and take a few early wickets and put them under pressure.
"It’s an amazing feeling to bring up a hundred in an Ashes Test match. There was a lot of emotion there when I got it. I really enjoyed today and I’ve got to keep working hard and keep enjoying it."
MOMENT OF THE DAY
England thought they’d seen the back of Marsh when James Anderson trapped the left-hander in front on 29.
Umpire Chris Gaffney raised his finger but Marsh requested a review and technology showed Anderson’s delivery to be going over the top of middle stump.
The rest, as they say, is history and the match turned with Marsh going on to smash an unbeaten 126.
STAT OF THE DAY
Marsh provided the first instance of a father and son both scoring Ashes centuries. Shaun’s father Geoff scored two such Test centuries.
